Northwest Area School District began its annual Homecoming celebrations on Thursday evening with a parade and bonfire. The event gathered students, families, and community members for an evening of school spirit and hometown pride. Firefighter Barry Noss Jr. was presented with the Mocanaqua Volunteer Fire Company Award of Valor by Fire Chief Stephen McDaniels.

Barry was recognized for his actions during a residential structure fire on August 22, 2026. During the incident, he entered the building without the protection of a hoseline, located a trapped occupant, and removed the victim under hazardous fire conditions.
